Q 1. I am on immunosuppressants for my rheumatic disease. Should I stop taking these medicines?

If you are not suffering from any sort of infection, please do not stop taking your medications unless advised to do so by your rheumatologist.

It is very important to keep your rheumatic disease under control. By discontinuing your medicines, you are more likely to have a flare; which can increase your risk to catch any infection.

Q 2. Should I stop taking Ibuprofen?

There have been few social media posts creating confusion as to whether or not it’s safe to take ibuprofen or other pain medications.

As of today, there is no scientific evidence that ibuprofen or other anti- inflammatory drugs can make covid -19 worse. If you are already taking ibuprofen or some other pain medication, do not stop taking it without consulting your doctor.

Q 3. I have rheumatic disease. Am I at a greater risk of contracting corona virus infection?

In general patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases are at a greater risk for contracting infections and this may be true with covid – 19 as well, more so in an active disease. Hence, it is very important that you should continue your medicines under the guidance of a rheumatologist.

Q 4. Should I go for my routine rheumatology appointment?

Check with your rheumatologist if your routine rheumatology appointment is essential or it can be safely delayed or performed by telephone or via an  online platform.
